The “Cure” Can Kill
Monday, March 16th, 2009In the last year, all the cable and broadcast networks have aired stories about contamination of Heparin and other Charleston dangerous drugs manufactured in China and widely used in the United States. Until the news media reported the wide-spread contamination, Heparin ranked high among physicians’ drugs-of-choice for serious medical conditions. Because many large HMO’s import generic drugs from China to reduce their costs and boost their profits, and because China often fails to monitor drug-manufacturers’ processes and compliance with safety rules, many American patients have suffered significant injury from contaminated Heparin. Some patients even have died from relatively small doses of the contaminated medications.
